Kuwi's Huhu Hunt

Kuwi the Kiwi is determined to find tasty huhu grubs for her hungry little chick. As they explore the forest together, children are invited to discover native wildlife, notice hidden treasures and cheer Kuwi on as she lovingly cares for her little one.
Kirrily Koala encourages us to Be Present and Have an Awareness, noticing the tiny details hidden throughout the forest, observing the native animals and discovering the clues that help Kuwi on her journey.
Elky Elephant helps us Be Ready and Engage, exploring the forest with curiosity, learning about kiwi birds and huhu grubs and persevering as Kuwi continues her search for food.
Pikkle Panda reminds us to Be Mindful and Thoughtful, encouraging children to care for others, appreciate the kindness of a parent and celebrate the joy of helping those we love.
Through this heartwarming forest adventure, children discover that patience, perseverance and caring for one another help us grow strong relationships and create meaningful moments together—just like the Kind-e-play Friends.
Extend the learning...
Create a Forest Discovery Hunt using natural materials, toy insects, leaves, logs and small woodland animals hidden throughout the learning environment.
Invite children to become nature explorers, searching carefully for hidden treasures while noticing colours, textures, sounds and signs of life in the forest.
Extend the experience further by hiding small "huhu grubs" (felt pieces, pom-poms or wooden counters) beneath logs, leaves or bark. Encourage children to search like Kuwi, following clues, helping one another and celebrating each discovery before pretending to feed the hungry chick.
