Five Little Monkeys Wash the Car

Write your awesome label here.

Written and Illustrated By: Eileen Christelow
Published By: Clarion Books / Houghton Mifflin

The five little monkeys are excited to help wash the family car so it looks shiny and clean for its new owner. But when the car unexpectedly rolls down the hill and into the swamp, an unlikely group of helpers arrives. Through teamwork, problem-solving and a surprising ending, children discover that working together can turn unexpected challenges into wonderful opportunities.

Kirrily Koala encourages us to Be Present and Have an Awareness, noticing what is happening throughout the story, recognising how quickly situations can change and observing the feelings of the monkeys, their family and the crocodiles.

Elky Elephant helps us Be Ready and Engage, thinking ahead, solving problems and discovering how planning, persistence and cooperation help overcome unexpected challenges.

Pikkle Panda reminds us to Be Mindful and Thoughtful, encouraging children to help others, appreciate acts of kindness and recognise that working together often leads to the happiest outcomes.

Through this playful adventure, children discover that unexpected problems can become exciting learning opportunities when we stay calm, think creatively and work together—just like the Kind-e-play Friends.

Extend the Learning...

Create a Kind-e-play Car Wash and Rescue Station using buckets, sponges, toy cars, ramps, cardboard tubes and blocks.

Invite children to wash the cars before sending them gently down a ramp. What happens if the car rolls too far? Can children work together to rescue it and return it safely?

Extend the experience by introducing different "helpers" such as toy animals or puppets, encouraging children to problem-solve together and create their own imaginative endings.
